Fence Building Tales

13 Dec

I have owned a few homes in my life time. The first one, the one I lived in the longest, never got a fence around the back yard. That was silly really – the yard was pretty big and the dogs loved it, but they needed boundaries. I got tired of their running away and me having to catch them, but not tired enough to get a fence built. Can you believe that?

The second house had a much smaller yard and the thing was on a slope. It was a crazy yard because it was all slope! The dogs didn’t care for it much because it was all down hill. I had to get that yard contained. I couldn’t go running downhill chasing after escaping hounds! I had a wooden fence that time. It was really well made and installed very well indeed. There is no way I could have installed a fence on a straight piece of land, let alone one on the incline of my new yard.

And then to my current home. It’s a great place. I didn’t get a yard straight away. I just tied my dogs up with really long leashes. But I didn’t like the quality of their outdoor life when they were just tied up and couldn’t run free. So I called around for a Charlotte fence builder to help me out. I had a lot of companies to choose from but it was easy to choose the Charlotte fence contractor I went with in the end.

Forrest Fence had the best pricing and they worked so fast – they really knew what they were doing. Contrast that to several neighbors with the same size yards whose fences have taken a few days to put up. Not mine – mine was up in a few hours!

A Second Purchase

04 Dec

Also, I discovered three cables I was not expecting. Thankfully, they were buried deep enough! So much power actually, I never bogged it down all of the way, and this really helped to turn my garden walls ideas into reality. This really is of course for home use only, not for a landscaping service, nevertheless I find it keeps up very well, and I maintain it too. It is solidly made and it is apparent that B&D paid a lot of attention to both ergonomics and safety. It is nicely balanced, has an adjustable handle, and sports a heavy-duty electrical connection that includes a cord minder and an oversized, umbrella-like plug. Thanks, Black and Decker! I’ve used mine for over a year with no problems. I recommend this product. Happy edging. Also, since this uses a large blade, it doesn’t track well on sharp curves. The trencher feature is useless. I figured this would be real easy. I made four passes going slow back and forth and it only cut about 50% of the grass.

Garden Fencing Ideas and Tips

25 Oct

If your home’s outward aspects of beauty are to be considered then one of the greatest additions is garden fencing. A garden may be made to look exquisite but one of the general things that are forgotten is garden fencing. It is very necessary to consider a garden fence for landscape gardens as it can prevent strangers, stray animals and children from entering the garden area.

Install Spiked Fences:

If you are looking towards more security then spikes that are pointed need to be installed. Over the fence shrubs that are thorny can grow spreading slowly, so it gets difficult for thieves to enter into the garden area or even climb over the fence.

Consider the money or financial aspects before investing in the garden fence. You can think of some great additions like, garden furniture, fountains, ponds and any other beautiful landscaping idea. Bamboo fencing is a great option for beauty enhancement of your garden.

Environmentally Friendly Option:

Bamboo fencing is an environment friendly option available in a range of colours and hues especially with the natural beauty that is rustic in appearance. Traditional styles are also available in garden fencing in bamboo. A sort that is classic is the ‘kenninji’ style having bamboo poles panels with no gaps in between the panels. Since it is not resistant to rotting you will need to be careful about this selection.

There could be a few garden laws that will need your adherence. Proper markings need to be done as per the site map. Some land will need to be left free around the garden which you will need to know. Ascertain this before going ahead with garden fencing and trellis Edinburgh. Rail fencing may be needed in windy climatic conditions. Vinyl fencing available in natural wood colour, gray, and white and tan is a great lifetime guaranteed product.

Using Mosquito Dunks

08 Oct

Do you have a pond or stagnant pool near your home that is causing a mosquito problem? Don’t worry this is a very easy problem to solve if you know the location where mosquitoes are breeding. You take care of the bloodsuckers with a few mosquito dunks. These are insecticide tablets that you can drop directly in water, and they will kill any mosquito larva in the area. They are a great mosquito killer. You can find this product just about every department store. If you can’t find them in a store, you can always order them online.

Other options for killing mosquito larvae include introducing mosquito fish to the area. These fish will eat up to 100 larva a day. They are very effective if you can get them. Another thing to do is encourage dragon flies to enter your yard. These will lay eggs in water as well, and their offspring will feed on mosquito larva.

Snow Removal Service in Minnesota is a Must for Homeowners

22 Aug

As a homeowner, one thing I have discovered is that using a snow removal service in Minnesota is one of the best ways I can save myself time and aggravation. Minnesota has some great communities and a lot of amenities to offer, but the winters can be brutal. The temperatures are cold and sometimes it feels like the snow will never stop. Thanks to my snow removal service, I can stay warm inside and be confident that when the time comes to leave, I will not have any trouble getting out. That, in my mind, is money well spent.

If anyone asked me how to prepare for the winters here, one of the first things I would suggest is to develop a relationship with a snow removal company. I have always been happy with the work my service does and nothing beats the feeling of knowing they can plow me out no matter what the weather.

Continuous Circulation of Air

26 May

Last summer my Uncle thought it would be a good idea for him to build a pond into his backyard. He thought that this would give his home the extra edge that it needed. The problem was however that he had absolutely no idea of how to build a pond. He believe that all he would have to do is put a hole into his backyard and fill it with water. I knew that he was going to mess things up like this so I came to his aid. I wanted to help him to avoid a catastrophe. After I joined the fun we did things right and even put into the pond an important item of interest. We installed two pond aerators because it just looked real cool in my Uncles backyard but, also because it was a continuous circulation of air through the pond if we did that. All in all, my Uncle now has the backyard pond which he has always wanted.

Safeguarding Garden Play Equipment

11 May

Bark chippings come in all shapes, sizes and varieties. As well as the decorative mulches for flower beds, borders and landscape projects, you can also purchase playbark for activity areas where children play. This has all the benefits of a usual bark chipping covering as regards cosmetic appearance, but it is not designed to degrade so rapidly and the particle size will meet strict guidelines so there is a little hazard of getting sharp pieces in an eye in case of falls. Playbark is designed and tested to absorb impact, and does this job so well that it’s a usual sight in any council play area. Bags for domestic use can be purchased from a number of outlets and suppliers and are a good way of ensuring that nay play equipment in the garden such as slides or trampolines are quite safe in case of an accident. With garden and home accidents on the increase already this year (in step with the sunny weather) it might be a useful investment if you have small children.

Do You Know Why You Should Aerate Your Lawn?

13 Mar

As strange as it may seem, putting holes in the soil of your yard, otherwise known as aerating lawn, has a huge positive effect on the quality of your lawn. By aerating it, you will bring down the compaction of the soil. If your lawn is on a clay soil, this will mean that it will be easier for the water to go deeper into the ground plus it will give the soil a little more room to expand.

Aerating your lawn will also make your lawn more resistant. Drought, insect infestation, higher temperatures and even certain lawn diseases will have far less impact on a well aerated lawn. It will encourage the roots of the lawn to grow deeper because the moisture will not stay at surface level. Instead it will go down deeper making the roots having to go deeper as well.

All in all aerating will make for a healthier, greener and more beautiful lawn, so it is well worth your time.

Ideal Compost Pail

12 Dec

The ideal accessory for the kitchen, the Compost pail a nice stylish little compost bin which won’t look out of place in any style of kitchen modern or old. The main problem with composting is that none of us want to have to walk to the end of the garden every time we have a little bit of compost to dispose of, but neither do we want it to smell in the kitchen or be attacked by foxes, dogs or worst still rats if we leave it outside the backdoor.

With the compost pail we have a trendy looking little bin which has carbon filters fitted in the lid to neutralise any nasty smells, old cabbage leaves and other vegetable matter and of course it will take most of your kitchen waste like tea bags egg shells

Even newspapers and cardboard provided it is torn up into smallish pieces. Then when it’s full one trip to the compost heap then start again.

Having a shed is a must in every garden especially for those that take up gardening as a hobby. A garden shed allows your garden to be organized and free from clutter because this where you can store your garden tools and equipment as well as other garden stuffs like bags of mulches, plant food and growers. Having garden sheds creates a feeling of cleanliness and being organized that benefits not just the garden but the house itself. Determining how big or what type of garden shed to build depends on how wide your garden is and what type of tools and equipment you have. If you have a garden that can hold family events, you need to construct a shed big enough to store garden tools, grass cutters, water hoses, lawn mowers and maybe a couple of sacks of plant foods. What Are Termite Mud Tubes?

08 Aug

Sometimes, you might notice little covered trails running up a wall in a building. These are made of mud and dirt, and are usually around 1-1.5 cm wide. What are these tubes? They are termite mud tubes, which termites build to cover their movements when they need to traverse a stretch of open ground.

Termite mud tubes can be found in homes with serious cases of termite infestation, and are rare in any other case. These termite tubes provide shelter and protection to the termites while they travel to and fro from point A to point B. One of my old neighbour’s home has these termite mud tubes and when he uncovered them, some termites became exposed. These termites were aggressive and readily rushed out to protect the breach in their tube. I did advise my neighbour to call in a pest control operator as soon as he could, otherwise, God knows the damage those termites could inflict on his home in no time at all.

Lost Memories Restored With Chimes

21 Jul

Last year, my brother bought a wind chime and hung it on our terrace. I was curious and asked him what that thing is. “These are tuned wind chimes, don’t you know it?” he replied. “No,” I said. “What’s that for?” He paused for a moment and shrugged. “I don’t really know either. I just like the beautiful sound. Here, listen.” He touched the chimes with his fingers and yes, beautiful it was. The sound of the chimes when the wind’s blowing softly felt like music from heaven to my ears. The terrace had been my favorite place since then. Reading, eating, doing my homework, or even napping, anything I could do there, I would do there.

Several months later, my brother died in an accident. It was shocking for my whole family, but all we can do, was praying for his peaceful rest. Ever since the accident, the sound of the chimes always reminds me of my passed brother. It is no longer beautiful, but rather, sad. I don’t like to hang around the terrace anymore, but somehow, I couldn’t remove the wind chimes. It’s still hanging on the terrace, and whenever the sad music comes out of it, I always think about my brother. “Brother, now I know what it is for. It’s there as a precious memento of you.”
